Richardson again named ‘Top 10 lawyer’ in SC

BARNWELL, SC – Founding RPWB member Terry E. Richardson, Jr. has been named one of South Carolina’s Top 10 attorneys by the national ranking service Super Lawyers for the second year in a row.

The annual list highlights attorneys who have attained a high-degree of peer recognition and professional achievement. The selection process includes independent research, peer nominations and peer evaluations.

Richardson has practiced law in South Carolina since 1974. From his office in Barnwell, he focuses his practice on business litigation, burn injuries, truck and railroad accidents, products liability, class actions and securities fraud.

In 2014, Richardson was named Advocate of the Year by the SC Appleseed Legal Justice Center for his dedication in both his professional and personal life for pursuing opportunity and justice for all in South Carolina, especially children.  He is a previous winner of the Compleat Lawyer Award, which recognizes South Carolina School of Law alumni for outstanding civic and professional accomplishments.

Also in the 2016 Super Lawyers rankings, RPWB founding member Charles W. Patrick, Jr. was named a top products liability attorney in South Carolina.

Patrick was an integral part of the trial team that pursued the landmark tobacco litigation of the 1990s, pioneering the concept that a state entity is entitled to recover healthcare costs from tobacco companies for the damages caused by the use of their products. He played a pivotal role in crafting the legal theories and building the evidence required to bring such cases. Litigation on behalf of attorneys general in Mississippi, Florida and Texas settled for a combined $40 billion and tobacco companies soon entered into a $200 billion master settlement with the remaining states. This money has been used to compensate states for their healthcare spending and to educate the public and, in particular, children about the very serious risks of using tobacco products.

Patrick remains heavily involved in tobacco litigation and other public health matters on behalf of governments. He is a foreign legal consultant for six Canadian provinces seeking to recoup public health spending.

Richardson, Patrick, Westbrook & Brickman represents plaintiffs in complex litigation throughout the United States. The firm has 30 attorneys who work in Barnwell, Charleston, Mt. Pleasant and Edwardsville, Ill.

In addition to products liability and catastrophic personal injury work, the firm has extensive experience with cases pertaining to asbestos, antitrust, class action lawsuits, predatory lending, pharmaceuticals and medical devices, medical malpractice, healthcare fraud, securities fraud, toxic torts and vehicle defects.
