CHARLESTON, SC – RPWB attorneys are filing cases for plaintiffs who have suffered from potentially life threatening side effects from taking the smoking cessation drug, Chantix. RPWB Chantix attorneys have also filed a petition to consolidate all Chantix cases into Multidistrict Litigation (MDL).
The FDA notified healthcare professionals and patients that it has required the manufacturer of the smoking cessation aid Varenicline (Chantix) to add a new Boxed Warning and develop a patient Medication Guide highlighting the risk of serious neuropsychiatric symptoms in patients using this product. These symptoms include changes in behavior, hostility, agitation, depressed mood, suicidal thoughts and behavior, and suicide. The drug is also associated with seizures and blackouts which can result in serious accidental injuries. Seizures and blackouts have yet to be addressed in the new Boxed Warning. Because Chantix did not come with stronger warnings, many users may not be aware that the symptoms they are experiencing or have experienced could be caused by this drug.
With this recent labeling update, RPWB will continue to accept cases for Chantix users who have suffered from serious mental health issues and/or accidental injuries that were caused by seizures and blackouts when taking this medication.
